Dems vaccuuming up the funds

And are outraising the GOP by $100 Mil at this point in the cycle (hat tip: Drudge). If you weren't panicking already, you should be now.

Oh. And one more thing. We're also out of coffee.

Yup, this is definitely bad news. One can only hope that after the first few primaries the Repub front-runner becomes clear, and funding support starts piling in.

Here's a question: which Dem do you want to get the nomination? I'm on the fence with this one. Assuming a Dem wins general election, Hillary is probably the least acceptable to me (of the big 4, including Al Bore). However, if I think Hillary is the least likely to win a general election, maybe she's the opponent I want. This is where it gets tricky though - although she's the most polarizing figure and most likely to get out the Repub vote, she's also likely to get out the Dem vote. If she is nominated, I guarantee (5-star lock pick of the week) record voter turnout, with all-time high beating '04. The question is, who turns out more: the base she energizes, or the opposition she energizes??

I think right now, any Dem who wins the nomination, including Gravel, would be prohibitive favorites to win the general. This includes Hillary, who for years has been my great hope for a GOP cakewalk. The waters have been muddied and poisoned, and it's going to take a combination of brilliant strategy/great execution/external events/divine intervention to get a Republican into the WH in Jan '09.

In that case, start praying. You better hope Clark or Warner runs, b/c with Bayh withdrawing your best chance at something remotely reasonable just left the building. The current field of Dem nominees is nothing short of a disaster.

The only thing going for Repubs is the hideously low approval rating Congress currently has. Under Pelosi's "leadership" they have squandered all the capital they gained by being "not Bush". I think if a Republican candidate is willing to take stronger stances against several Bush policies in the general election, and identify himself as someone willing to do whatever is best for the country, then can win the general. But it will be tight..
