Are you kidding me?

Well, this may do what 15 seasons in a row without winning a bowl game couldn't do to me: turn me off from Notre Dame. How the F can they justify inviting Obama to be their commencement speaker? It's not even that I disagree with his policies; it's the ludicrousness of a Catholic university inviting such a pro-abortion, pro-embryonic-stem-cell politician to such a visible event and conferring an honorary degree.

The Catholic church doesn't have to worry about outsiders trying to take it down with inside jobs like this.

It is an outrage. I've been watching this one develop the last few days, but was hoping someone at ND would come to their senses so OccObs didn't have to bring the smack down.

Alas, it was time.

For complete and excellent coverage of the whole situation, check out American Papist.

Here is Rev. Jenkins defense of this position.

Here is where you can send your comments to Rev. Jenkins.

It really is quite disappointing. If the head of one the largest and probably most visible Catholic universities in the world won't stand up for Catholic beliefs, who will?

This is exactly why Ex Corde Ecclesiae was promulgated by John Paul II, and why, if you're interested in finding an orthodox Catholic university, a pretty good proxy is to find a school where the faculty takes the mandatum or is, at least, willing to should the Bishop require it (as with Christendom and Our Lady of Corpus Christi).
