BP = Douchebaggery

Well, glad to see Pan Am bomber al-Megrahi was released so BP could get their oil deal with Libya. I will NEVER buy from a BP station.

Well, I can't blame BP b/c the government has no scruples. Did BP know of, or ask for, the inclusion of this prisoner in the deal? Or did the British Gov't just surmise they could get the deal done, and wanted to get the state's share (~75%) of profit from the scheme?

OK, I'll come clean. The station across the street from my office is a BP. I'll drive down the block for gas if I must. I just want the proof first.

If the company was involved in negotiating the release of a terrorist, I guess they could always say they were just making good on their new motto, "beyond petroleum."

One last point: I seem to remember reading somewhere that the interests of British petroleum were so tied to the government's that in the 1st half of the 20th century BP basically helped draw the current political map in the middle east.

Must. Drive. Up. Comment count.

Crap...that was one of the only companies I felt even slightly righteous buying gas from.

Who's left? No Mobil?Exxon, Citgo, BP...

I may give BP the benefit of the doubt until more info comes in...

Well, to believe BP wasn't complicit you then have to believe that the British government was heavily lobbying for al-Megrahi's release so that BP could gain access to Libyan oil--without a request from BP to do so.

Why would the British government, on their own and without discussions with BP or interest from BP, try to establish more favorable conditions for BP to win an oil contract? It's just too much of a stretch for me to believe.

Nothing short of a complete public denial from BP will be sufficient for me, and to be honest probably even that won't do it.

I usually buy from the Hess near my office. I feel ok about buying there. Probably due to ignorance of something horrible they've done.

You mean like owning the Jets previously and torturing me season in and season out?

I actually buy mostly from a Hess near me or a new Irving station.
