A Chink in the Armor?
With all the recent hubbub about Rudy's shortcomings (which have been well documented here on OccOb), "America's Mayor" seems to be nigh-bulletproof thus far.
However, there is a relatively small but extremely vocal group that is trying to show the true man behind the superhero facade--the FDNY.
If they have their way, everyone in America will get to read this before the primaries:

Some of the criticisms of Guiliani come off as somewhat selfish whining by the writers but the big picture complaint is made clear...

Very interesting stuff, DC. I've seen this headline thrown around in a few places, but if this gets traction it's going to make life really difficult for Rudy.
If the image of Rudy as 9/11 hero takes a hit, his star is pretty much snuffed out.
This would definitely cause a big problem for Rudy if it gains traction, since as Fredo mentioned: as Rudy's 9/11 image goes, so he goes.
Apparently Fred Thompson is seriously considering throwing his name into the ring of contenders..
On the other side of this issue, here's some thoughts by a New York City firefighter known here as KW (I have made slight edits to words but the content of the message is intact):
"Guys, the IAFF means c**k to us. They are a bunch of corrupt thieves who we give money to, and who reciprocate with nothing. They get Fat F**ks like K. Gallagher to accept offers from the city, and then provide those same Fat F**ks with high paying jobs, and list them as consultants. We need the IAFF like we need a c**k on the forehead. Accept nothing that they say and heed none of their advice."
"We have two unions. The UFA and the UFOA. Take what you will from the advice they provide and figure out the rest yourself."
"Did the UFA screw the rest of us over? Not at all. They did what they felt was best for their members. Just let everyone you know that when the IAFF speaks, it is not speaking for the rest of us."
If this is the predominant feeling surrounding the "Evil Rudy" issue then this will quickly fade into the background with minimal damage done.
After hearing about Fred Thompson and watching Al Gore's teasing comments at the Oscars, I am starting to believe these two will be the last men standing when the dust clears...
I agree that if Al Gore throws his name into the ring, not only will he end up at least #2 in Democrat primaries, he may well win the party nomination. I think right now Dems are scared that Hillary is unelectable in general election, and Obama's inexperience makes him an easy target in general election. Gore avoids these issues, and in the minds of most Democrats he "really" won in 2000, so they'll see him as electable. Plus, they like the fact that he has a lot of support on the ground and popularity these days.
Fred Thompson is an interesting one, his big challenge will be to find some big donors to take on the fund raising prominence already shown by Rudy, McCain, and Mitt. If he can line up some money and support early, he could make things interesting. Can't say I know anything about his position on any issues, but if falls on the right side of the big ones he could mount a formidable campaign given his widespread recognition.
