Romney

The more Mitt's out of office (as MA gov), the more I miss him. Newly-elected "free 'em all" Deval (so-named for his "progressive" position on criminals and illegal aliens) can't even spend two months on the job without causing 4 major political uproars. First the helicopter rides, then the new drapes and Caddy, hiring an expensive aide to manage his wife's schedule, now this: calling Bob Rubin at Citigroup on behalf of Ameriquest Mortgage - whose board he sat on. It's so bad even the Boston Globe has been tearing into him with numerous articles over the last few days.. Try: news.google.com, search for "boston globe deval patrick".

The liberals are up in arms: "How can this be?? He was supposed to be a 'man of the people', who would fight for us!" After all, liberals are always for the people and not in it for themselves, right???

This makes Mitt's clean record while Governor (and in every other aspect of his personal and professional career) that much more remarkable. Especially since the Globe would have just salivated to get an article like this about Mitt, rather than Dem Deval, so you know they were digging as hard as possible during his term.

Thanks for the local update.

Helicopter rides: $4,000 each.
Wife's scheduling aide: $100,000.
Deval Patrick making a joke out of his naive supporters: priceless.

Mitt's star is on the rise. As long as Gingrich or some as-yet-unseen conserative enters the race, Romney will be one of the last men standing.

Should be: "doesn't enter the race," but you knew that already.

Speaking of Newt, interesting move here.. He's going to appear on Dobson's radio show to discuss his moral failures and his quest for repentance.

Mitt has by far the cleanest family history and personal life of any of the four leading Repubs in the polls, and it will be interesting to see how important this is to SoCon vote compared to the fact that he's Mormon.

That is very interesting, don't you think? I think Mitt is right when he says that voters want a person of faith, and are not that wrapped up in which faith it is. The counterpoint I keep seeing @ race42008 and RedState is, 'would you say that if the candidate was Muslim.'

Well, no I wouldn't. That would be a bigger problem for fairly self-evident reasons, namely GWOT. And I think the average values voter would prefer a man who lives a values-oriented lifestyle. Could just be me, though.

I wonder what impact the Newt story will have on Repub voters, if Newt decides to run. Some of the details from his past could be pretty messy, I'd be hard pressed to see how SoCons could just dismiss them while still remaining true to their guiding principles. On the other hand, Newt is certainly the best debater among the candidates and probably the most knowledgable on a wide variety of issues.
