NC Seals the Deal
Clinton can no longer win the popular vote--period. Coupled with the fact that she will be trailing in states and pledged delegates, this means that the race is now effectively over. Obama is the nominee.
How long will Hillary continue to slog on? I sure hope she at least goes into WV and KY, where she'll give him two more black eyes. But that's just the residuals. This game is over.

And occobs was there first, with my call ~3 months ago. Granted, the results didn't quite play out as I expected, but the writing's been on the wall for her for months now, and she won't throw in the towel.
Here is her calculus: if she doesn't get the nomination in '08, she has to assume Obama beats McCain. In which case it is possible she won't have another shot until 2016. I doubt she has ANY interest in remaining a senator for 8 more years and dealing with all that. Not to mention, Hillary + 8 more years is highly unlikely to age gracefully. So, this year is pretty much all or nothing for her.
As to the popular vote, if you include FL and MI she is only 0.3% (~100,000 votes) below Obama, so it is possible she could beat him in popular vote. But the question is, who do the superdelegates think has the better shot to beat McCain, and were last night's results enough to swing the undecideds to Obama's camp?
Once Hillary drops out, you have to believe her campaign will share all their background dirt on Obama with McCain and RNC. You have to believe she wants to see Obama lose, because it means she can reiterate her point that he can't beat McCain, and gives a real shot to run in 2012.
Does that 100K figure (counting MI) credit Obama for the undecided count, or does it just give every Hillary vote as straight win margin?
That dog ain't gonna hunt.
Actually SHK, I think I had your premature call beat by two months by my premature call.
ahh, trumped by the old cawkeye.
well played, well played.
Now, will Hill burn every bridge going and consider a run as an independent to save her own ego?
Nahh. Just quietyly sabotage Obama so she can say "I told you so" and run again in '12.
