More evidence Dems for McCain

Latest Gallup poll suggests 20-30% of Dems claim they will vote for McCain rather than Dem nominee if the nominee is not the candidate they presently support. This is particularly true of Hillary supporters if Obama is the nominee.

I think we'd be lucky to get even half of those who are presently making that claim; I'm sure their "support" for McCain is fleeting at best. But he should figure out a way to try to secure as many of those voters as possible. They represent a significant number of 'in-play' votes that could easily swing the election in his favor. I think his best chance of appealing to these voters--without appearing to pander and without alienating conservatives--is to emphasize his honesty, integrity, and leadership. He needs to represent that is the right person to lead the country out of recession, out of Iraq in a safe and appropriate way, and into the future.

I really have nothing to add to this--I just noticed that there have been a lot of posts lately with 0 comments and I felt obligated to break the trend (and reassure posters that their hard work is noticed and appreciated...).

Rock on, DC!

I'll live in the comments for a while. Speaking of Dems, how is this for parallels. NY and MA, two of the most lib states, were both doing quite well under Repub governship: Pataki and Romney, respectively. However, the people just had to have Dem govs, so what do they get? Spitzer and Patrick. And you KNOW things are going bad when the NYT runs an article saying Patrick, a Dem, is doing a bad job.

Ooh...I'm feeling commenty too! Having a Dem president do a terrible job may end up being the only cold comfort we'll get. But, things look better each day.

I agree to some extent. One reason it is sometimes enjoyable to have Dems in control is to point out how poor a job they do once they're in power. Whether it's MA or NY, or the Dem "leadership" under Pelosi/Reid, the fact remains that Dems are best at complaining and worst at actually doing.

Ahh, I feel kinda like Indiana Jones after removing the golden monkey idol in the opening scene of Raiders and now the giant comment boulder is rolling again...
