Gingrich-Rice 2012
You heard it here first. Newt is the only guy out there that I can get excited about as a candidate and I think Condie Rice would be a great choice for a running mate despite her association with W. Both are extremely intelligent and (AFAIK with Rice) solid in conservative principles.

Either Gingrich or Rice are conceivable, but Rice is certainly a low percentage play. She has never run for elected office and does not seem inclined to. In terms of Newt picking her as a veep, it's tough to say. Condi brings a lot of baggage, but she does help the identity politics considerably. That said, her ideology is a cipher. No one knows what she stands for, really. As a the head of the NSA, she was stridently hawkish (if behind-the-scenes accounts are to be believed). As Secretary of State, she was inclined towards moderation.
She's sounded moderate tones in terms of social policy, and I haven't really heard much of anything from her in terms of economic policy.
Since she's never been an elected official, any stances she's voiced in the past can be presented as "following orders" and "doing her job." It's tough to feel excited about supporting her from a policy perspective. As a person, she's classy, intelligent, and impressive. But I don't know if I'd say she's charasmatic.
Most importantly, she seems to love her gig at Sanford from every interview I see her in, and I'm not sure she wants to undergo the scrutingy of personal life. Particularly if the rumors are true.
All told, I'd say Gingrich has an outside shot at the nomination, although his odds keep improving as opponents self destruct (e.g., Ensign, Sanford). Rice I doubt will be on the ticket.
Freudian slip. Should have been "Stanford," not "Sanford."
Rice get the identity politics needed to either garner votes or piss people off with the press's hipocracy. From everything I know of her, she's highly intelligent, which I feel will be Newt's angle of attack. More unpredictable things have happened. I didn't say I wasn't going out on a limb.
It's less of a stretch than Palin was last year, that's for sure.
