OK. got out of my class a little early. All the better for live blogging.
MB: Beam Black label. Rocks.
Good day for Huck. Won WV. Leading in GA in early returns. They already called AL for him. He's in the running in both TN and OK. sounds like the talk of his early demise were greatly exaggerated.
Mitt carried MA. Did what he needed to do there.
I think I saw Fox called NJ, CT, and IL for McCain. He'll certainly get NY when it closes at 9 PM.
Arkansas polls closed. Fox News calls it for Huck. No surprise there.
McCain wins DE.
Dems look like they've really split down the middle.
They haven't been able to call AZ or NY yet. While I can't read too far into that 15 minutes after the polls closed, both states must be on track to be closer than people figured. McCain really needs to thank his lucky stars that both are WTA states.
198 delegates for McCain in 4 contiguous states, all WTA: CT, NY, NJ, and DE.
AZ is close, apparently b/c the immigration issue is large in this border state, and that's cancelling out McCain's home state advantage to some degree. Once again, McCain's been so fortunate in that all the wins he gets seem to be WTA.
Still awaiting some MO projections.
Whither MO, TN, GA, CA?
These are the states I'm still waiting to hear on.
Mitt's only winning MA and UT so far, so he needs a few states that aren't home base. CA and MO are the two biggies. I think he needs both.
I don't know. As these results come in, I'm struck by how McCain has failed to really sew this thing up. Barely winning his home state? Not winning any Southern states so far (granted GA could change that)? Basically a northeastern candidate when it's not too likely he'll be able to win northeastern states in the general?
Meanwhile, Mitt's going backwards in any chance to knock McCain off his perch as frontrunner. He's only winning his childhood home and political home (UT and MA). That could change if he takes MO or CA, but you can't be too impressed with his failure to capitalize on a weakened Huck in the South, where the conservative anti-McCain vote should be strongest.
Huck's the winner so far. I doubt he becomes viable as the Pres candidate, but McCain's debt to him grows....
McCain now projected to win OK. Nice win for him in a conservative area. Big military state, though.
By the way, how about how AZ is still too close to call?
I'm sure Mac will pull it out, but I hope he has to sweat it a little. It was so cocky in the debate when he told Mitt, "I'm sure the AZ papers will be endorsing me," unlike how the BloGlo and Boston Herald abandoned Mitt.
10 PM. Polls close in UT, ND. Utah called for Mitt. Shocker.
Too close to call states. Huckabee currently leading in MO, TN and GA. All razor thin margins. If Huck sweeps the three, he might just be back in this thing as a legitimate threat to McCain.
Bill Kristol just made a very telling statement:
"The south is the base of the current GOP. Mitt is running 3rd in all the Southern states. It's tough to see a path for Mitt currently."
Guess my primary vote went down the drain again. I always seem to pick the loser...
WOW! Obama won CT. That's bad, bad news for Hill. Bad, bad news for GOP.
Mitt's speaking, but Fox News projected on the scrawl that Huck won TN!!!!!
That is unexpected, and big. Huck clearly has done enough to stay in the race. Can he get a one-on-one with Mac?
Unknown. Mitt says he'll fight on. But if he doesn't win MO or CA, it'll be tough to justify him continuing on.
Fox News also has McCain winning AZ. 'bout time.
AP projecting Huck wins GA. Wow. What a night for Huck.
Fox News now called GA for Huck as well. Huck sweeping the South.
Here comes the Hill speech.
The energy from the Dem supporters is off the chart. But of course, that's cause Republicans don't get high before going to the campaing rally.
I'm thinking that Huck and Hill are doing well getting to their audiences before their opponents. Most folks are ready to cash it in. Get to them before they hit the hay.
Mitt wins MT.
Barack barack barack. aehhh. lehh. lehh.
Mitt wins mn.
18 minutes until Ash Wed. Enjoying my last drink until post-Easter.
A nice bourbon+rocks. Hint of licorce.
McCain wins MO. He's leading in CA. Guess it's over.
