Romney endorsement?

Mitt supposedly to endorse McCain. This is the right move, and will hopefully help solidify support for McCain.

BTW, if Mitt endorses McCain and directs his delegates to vote for McCain, Huckabee should immediately suspend his campaign as well. I appreciate why he has not dropped out to this point, despite being mathematically eliminated, since he continues to win some states and shows he has a respectable following while spending very little money. But if McCain gets to 1013 delegates with Mitt's support, only 78 short of the nomination, it would be a grave disservice to McCain and the party for Huckabee to not withdraw. In fact, I would consider a non-withdrawal to be in direct contrast to Byron York's point from Fredo's post the other day:

And it is unlikely that Huckabee wants to do anything in the last days of his campaign to diminish all the gains he has made.

This endorsement is vital if McCain is to have any chance in Nov. The rest conservative base will need to get solidly behind him as well. McCain and the whole GOP must get together and work hard against the Dem nominee early and often.

BTW, what about if McCain picked Colin Powell as his VP? He was widely respected by people from both parties, and could help further attract Ind voters. The only thing I'm not sure of is whether his appeal to Ind and Dem voters was permanently tainted by his support for Iraq invasion. Granted, he's apologized for his position on that, but I'm not sure whether enough voters paid attention to that.

On the other hand, if McCain's focus is to add a VP who shores up conservative vote and locks up the south, there are better choices than Powell.

Why not cover all bases and go with Condy Rice?
