I know it's impossible,

but I'll be pulling hard for the Shark tomorrow in the final round of the British Open. I always liked the guy. A class act. A real player. And an almost impossible string of failing to get it done in the majors when he was clearly the 1st or 2nd best golfer in the world (paging Nick Price...).

For him to win a major, become the oldest golfer ever to do so, when he apparently entered the tournament only to prep for some Senior events, well, that would be almost too sweet for words.

It's already been an impressive trick, Greg.

Well, Greg didn't win, but it was a historic performance that will be long remembered. Kind of like Connors reaching the semis in his final U.S. Open ('92(?) or thereabouts).

By the way, it turns out Norman did win two British Opens during his heyday, which I hadn't realized. Of course, he's still remembered for the myriad of losses that stemmed from him choking and/or his opponents making ridiculously lucky shots (here's looking at you, Larry Mize). I saw on Wikipedia that golfers use the term "Norman Slam" to refer to someone who leads all 4 majors--after the third round.

Ouch. The Great White Shark deserves better.

Connors semifinal run was '91, FWIW.
