GOP Scoreboard

Since delegates are actually what counts, I thought I'd post on the current totals with 1,191 being the magic number:

Romney 54
Huckabee 22
McCain 15
Thompson 6
Paul 2
Giuliani 1
Hunter 1

more detail here

Here are the number of delegates at stake in upcoming races:
SC 46
NV 32
FL 113

And did you know this?
Guam has 9 delegates
Virgin Islands has 9 delegates
Puerto Rice has 23 delegates

Actually, SC and FL will only have half as many delegates as you listed. Those figures are their normal delegate allotment, but the national party punished the two states for moving the primaries forward and had their delegate count halved.

FL is still the richest reward, because it's the only of the three (I believe) that is winner-take-all.

Thanks for the clarification Fredo. Here's a nice rundown of how it all works.

An interesting note related to a previous post by SHK questioning whether blue state votes should matter in primaries; states get extra delegates for sending GOP members to Congress, for electing Republican Governers and for electing GOP majorities in state legislatures.

As previously obseerved, Governers are important in the general to help deliver a state. Currently there are 28 Dem governors and 22 Republican.

Very nice link, MB. Lots of good info there.

One quick caveat: b/c states were in a mad dash to change their primary dates and rules this cycle, some of this information could be dated.

For instance, the site has information that FL is winner-take-all-by-Congressional-district.

According to this article, Florida was considering amending its primary laws in response to the RNC stripping their delegates, and going to a winner-takes-all-statewide formula.

The goal, apparently, was to keep the delegate prize rich and thereby keep the candidates focused on FL. I haven't been able to find a source confirming the proposal was ratified.
